Community Involvement and Charitable Giving

We are so proud to be a part of northeastern Minnesota communities. This is our home, and we believe with conscious charitable giving efforts monetarily and with our time and other resources, we can play an important role in protecting our community and our environment today and into the future.

Through active and sustained involvement with our neighbors – generously sharing our means and human talent – we grow alongside our communities. Participating in activities and initiatives that promote community well-being by providing human, financial and other resources is part of our commitment to be a good neighbor.

Volunteer Participation

Our employees generously serve their communities as civic leaders, on chamber of commerce boards, charitable organizations, economic development groups and as volunteer leaders in youth programs ranging from sports to scouting. We also provide support to signature community events such as the annual Hoyt Lakes Water Carnival and the United Way’s annual Rampage at the Ridge fundraiser.

Educational initiatives

Having a well-trained and educated local workforce drives our continued involvement and support of Iron Range educational initiatives. For example, we’re actively involved with the Northeast Higher Education District, a unique governance structure for five autonomous yet interdependent two-year colleges that focus on training and retaining the Iron Range workforce. Our team members also serve on various advisory boards and provide leadership at individual NHED campuses such as the Iron Range Engineering program, a four-year degree program offered at Mesabi Range College and Itasca Community College campuses through Minnesota State University Mankato. We also serve on the board of the Range Engineering Council, a nonprofit that promotes awareness and encourages student participation in grades 5-12 in STEM programs.

Minnesota High School Championships

Is it possible to live on the Iron Range without a passion for high school hockey? We live and breathe it up here. We look forward to the state hockey tournament every winter, the annual state Prep Bowl in the fall and girls and boys basketball tournaments each spring. We are proud to be a major sponsor of the Minnesota State High School League tournaments.

East Range Community Advisory Panel

To ensure we effectively share new opportunities and address challenges with community members, we are proud to be a co-sponsor of the East Range Community Advisory Panel. This is a diverse forum established to communicate, share ideas, mutual concerns and build trust in addressing the myriad of needs and challenges we all face together in our East Range communities. This group of volunteers representing local government, non-profit, business, education and other interests is professionally facilitated and meets regularly to educate the community and solicit feedback regarding plans, operations and concerns about new opportunities.

Community Outreach

We welcome the opportunity to share the many economic, environmental, historical and operational aspects of our project with school, civic, municipal or other organizations. We want participants to know the steps we are taking to safely and effectively mine and process essential minerals from the NorthMet deposit. To schedule a presentation for your group, please call our Community Information Line at 1.218.471.2174 or email us.
